If you network furiously and you’re not seeing results, try incorporating the following steps to increase your success and improve your relationships.
Finish meetings with actions
A good story has a beginning, middle and end. Start with good eye contact and hand shake, fill out the middle with Qs about them, really listening and get interested. Then finish with some action points. Can you introduce them to someone? Do you need to book in a follow up meeting? Did they ask for a price list? Make note and take action.
Follow up on your promised actions
A real simple one, most forget – actually follow up. Do whatever you said you was going to do. It’s one of the easiest methods to increase trust and competency and yet it’s sometimes overlooked. Make a note in your phone or on that person’s business card to remind you of the action needed. 1 or 2 days after is good / same day if you want to really amaze them.
Don’t leave it too late to reaffirm what you said you’d do
You may forget to take their contact details – don’t worry, you’re only human. You’ll know of someone who could get you their details. If you’ve got LinkedIn, use it and connect. It’s okay to forget, we’ve all got other jobs to be doing, just be honest and think like a human. Don’t try and come up with an excuse, be authentic and real. Next time make note as per above.

You’re showing them you respect their opinion and view on something. Engage and listen, plus they might actually give you some golden pieces of advice. It’s also a good idea to validate your own thoughts or experiences.
