Four places to work that aren’t an office
You’ve hit the wall. You’re distracted and you’re flagging and there isn’t an ounce of worthwhile work leaving your being anytime soon. It’s going to take more than a cup of coffee to bring you back to life and no amount of Hob Nobs could get this matter under control. The only thing that’s going to get you back in the game today is a total change of scenery.
Here are four places to relocate when your home office or kitchen table just isn’t working for you right now.
THE LOCAL COFFEE SHOP
It’s almost as if they pump something through the air in a coffee shop or drop an extra shot of productivity juice in your flat white. Whatever it is, working from your local café or coffee shop works wonders for the old creativity. The coffee is guaranteed to be good and someone else will make it, provided you pay them. The Wi-Fi is strong, there’s food on tap and the playlist is usually decent too. Add to this the fact that you can’t stay there all day and those deadlines might just start to look doable.
THE BEACH
There’s something about those hazy days of summer that triggers a desire to head for the nearest beach, but who says it has to mean a sneaky sick day? Nothing reminds you how lucky you are to have the flexibility to work whenever and wherever you want, quite like being at the beach with your laptop open and a cuppa in the sand beside you.
LIBRARIES
No, we haven’t entered a time warp; libraries have been getting us in work mode since way back when revising for our GCSEs occupied our every waking hour. Nowadays, the Wi-Fi is better and you’re unlikely to have to take it in turns to use the only available computer. But there’s still a lot to be said for the silence and the inspiration that comes with being surrounded by great books.
THE PARK
Working outside is scientifically proven to stimulate creativity and lower stress levels, so when the sun shines, take this show outdoors. Pitch up in your local park, stock up on snacks, lay out your blanket and angle your laptop screen to avoid glare as best you know how. Some serious work is about to go down…
HELM
At Helm, we haven’t got the answer for everything. But we’ve got plenty of desk space, tons of good people to chew the fat with and smash through the mind blocks, plus a beer to celebrate finally ticking that one last thing off your to-do list that you thought might languish on there forever. The door is always open and the kettle is always on. See you there.
